In a classroom of Ninghai Huangtan Middle School, Kong Jianyue, a master of arts and crafts and the curator of Yue Yi root carving art Museum, was instructing the students of the school’s root carving art club. He told the students how to hold the knife and that the undercutting should be accurate, but the carving should be slow.

Chen Hua, the principal of Huangtan Middle School, said that such kind of activities can help students broaden their horizons and knowledge after class. It not only enhances their appreciation of root carving art, but also improves their labor skills, so that the traditional art of root carving could be inherited and developed.
