According to the "outline of regional integration and development planning for the Yangtze River Delta" issued by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council, in terms of infrastructure connectivity, the Yangtze River Delta area will realize the improvement of the inter-provincial highway access, the establishment of the world-class airport group system, and the significant collaboration between the ports. Ningbo will then play an important role in all these aspects.
Among others, the Yangtze River Delta area will speed up the construction of a modern rail transit system integrating high-speed railways, normal-speed railways, intercity railways, municipal (suburban) railways and urban rail transit, and build a high-quality rapid rail transit network. On the evening of December 1, a staff member from the transportation department concerned said that the construction report for the Nantong-Suzhou-Jiaxing-Ningbo Railway has been completed and is now waiting to be approved, which is the most important step before the start of this world's longest high-speed railway across the sea. The Ningbo-Taizhou-Wenzhou high-speed railway, another high-speed railway southward from Ningbo, has also entered the pre-research stage, taking another step from the imagination to the reality.
In terms of the inter-provincial highways, the outline mentions a number of planned high-speed passages including the Shanghai-Zhoushan-Ningbo cross-sea channel. In addition, the elimination of the cross-provincial highway tolls has entered the final stage, which will also further enhance the accessibility of the inter-provincial highways.
As for the airport system, the outline proposes to strengthen the air service of Ningbo, Wenzhou and other surrounding areas. According to the personnel concerned, the T2 Terminal of Ningbo Lishe International Airport will be completed and put into use by the end of this year, and so far the countdown of its operation has started. The new terminal will be the first in Zhejiang Province to have the direct subway access and it will further improve the airport service and radiation capacity of the airport.
In late November, the container throughput of the Ningbo-Zhoushan Port exceeded 25 million TEUs, about 20 days earlier than in 2018. In the first ten months of this year, the cargo throughput of the port exceeded 938 million tons, up by 6.8% over the same period of last year, maintaining a steady upward trend. Therefore, it has become a focus for the Ningbo-Zhoushan Port to accelerate its construction of the modern comprehensive port.
