The 19th seminar for the Phycological Society of Chinese Society fro Oceanology and Limnology was held in Ningbo on November 30, attracting about 900 domestic experts to participate and discuss on the issues of algae culture with global climate change.

Over 60% of the carbon dioxide on earth is absorbed by algae. Without them, the earth would have been much warmer. said Yan Xiaojun, President of Zhejiang Ocean University. Ningbo has rich algae resources, but the processing industrial chains of algae are mostly human-based rather than machine-based, thus there is a great demand for researches on the seedling raising and breeding technologies. In addition, the researchers should accelerate their research in the prediction of the algae outbreak to deal with the processing of the large amount of algae to such useful products as food addictives, textile addictives and marine drugs.
