Rock climbing was listed as a formal event of Summer Olympics in August, 2016. In order to prepare for the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympic Games, Ningbo Sports Team selected rocking climbing athletes from other fields and sports in Yinjiang Rock Climbing Park on November 10th, which is based on the requirements of General Administration of Sport of China.

It is reported that the Mountaineering Management Center of General Administration of Sport of China has set training hubs in six provinces including Guizhou, Hubei, Shandong, Chongqing, Hebei and Zhuejiang and has appointed coaches. The training programs are formulated by the Mountaineering Management Center and carried out by every training hub. After the preliminary selection, 500 rock climbers are trained intensively in the six training hubs. Among them, 109 rock climbers from Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Shanghai are arranged to be trained in the artificial rock climbing cliff of Ningbo Yinjiang Rock Climbing Park. Ningbo Sports Team has established the leading group and has well prepared for every work. Meanwhile, special-assigned workers are in charge of the training and the logistic work.

200 rock climbers will be selected from the 500 ones to participate in the second trails after the intensive training. Then, only 50 rock climbers will be selected to join in the intensive training of the national team in December. Based on the intensive training, several leading rock climbers will be picked out by experts and coaches to join the national team at the beginning of 2018. They will be trained intensively, preparing for Tokyo Summer Olympic Games.
