2017 China•Songlan Mountain Open Water Swimming Invitational Tournament was held in Xiangshan County, November 11st. More than 260 swimming enthusiasts across the country participated in the event held at the Songlan Mountain Coastal Tourism Resort and experienced the China Zhejiang Ocean Sports Center (Asian Sailing Center) that built for the 2022 Asian Games.

“The Asian Sailing Center is built to be a world-class ocean sport center.” Fan Liming, president of Xiangshan Swimming Association, said the project covers an area of around 90,000 square meters, including almost 20,000-square-meters water platform and 1000 berths. And it has been divided into such four sections as game training center, water sports base, Asian Games Village and harbor basin. Moreover, the center will be the first venue in Zhejiang to host international A-level maritime competition, and host the sailing-windsurfing event of 2022 Asian Games.

Participants from different places vied in the competition, some from distant provinces as Henan, Jiangxi and Hubei, while some from cities of Zhejiang, like Hangzhou, Jiaxing, Wenzhou as well as Ningbo. “ While aiming to attracting much attention to the Asian Sailing Center, this competition also tends to promote and publicize scientific winter swimming as an increasing number of people get involved in winter swimming,” said Fan Liming.

“It is my first time to be here. I really enjoy the environment here!” said president of Hangzhou Winter Swimming Association, a 66-year-old gentleman who has participated in numerous domestic winter swimming competitions since 1980. He added that the safety consciousness was the foremost important when swimming in open water.
