Right after the Spring Festival, the problem of labor shortage has been haunting enterprises. To cope with it the government and enterprises have worked out various measures to attract workers. Take a look.
To retain people is to retain the heart. This is a consensus shared by many enterprises. The Mecai automobile interior design company of Yinzhou has about 200 workers from other provinces. They all returned to the company on the seventh day of lunar January. An executive says to raise the welfare and treatment level, improve the working environment and attach importance to personnel training are the knowhow to retain workers.
Wang Wei, a worker with Mecai, says, “I think the working environment is nice. It provides a good platform for us to show ourselves. The company values its workers and cares about us.”
Like Mecai, the WECO Electron-Optical company based in Beilun not only provides low-interest loans for the workers, but work proactively to solve the schooling problem of the kids of the migrant workers.
Qiu Zhiwei, GM of WECO Electron-Optical, says, “The workers form an entity of the company. When workers have problems, the company as the employer should do the best to help them.”
While companies try to retain people with love and care, the government is trying to set up platforms to introduce people. Since January 7 (by Lunar Calendar) the labor departments in Yuyao has organized three job fairs and about 3300 people have reached intention agreements with employers. Yuyao has also contacted labor departments in Sichuan and Henan where there are abundant work force and has for many times organized companies to go to other provinces to recruit people.
Li Aizhu, deputy chief, employment management office of Yuyao, says, “On one hand we organize more job fairs, on the other we organize companies to go outside Zhejiang. In addition, we increase the coverage of our online job fair.”
90% of the companies in Congshou of Cixi are facing shortage of labor. The township government is now training a batch of assembly operators that are badly needed.
Xu Huibo, headmaster of Congshou Vocational School, says, “According to the needs of companies we are now offering 27 training programs, aiming to train personnel of electrotechnics, welding, scaffolding, and crane operating. They are all custom-made training programs.”
While setting up service platforms, the government is trying to guide companies in industrial upgrading, making them improve their product structure and increase the added value, so that they can use fewer workers and transfer from the mode of labor-intensive development to technology-intensive development.
