Low carbon is a hot word in the ongoing two sessions held in Beijing. To lead a low-carbon life has become a goal of Ningbo people. There are various ways to be a low-carbon citizen, planting a tree, building a biomass pool, using energy-saving lights, rejecting plastic bags, etc.
A tree planting activity was being held in Jindaotian Resort of Fenghua a few days ago. Some 400 citizens from all over the city were planting trees here. They wished to add some green to the city.
The tree planting activity signified the onset of an environmental protection voluntary campaign of the city in the name of Welcoming the World Expo. On the spot, a written proposal of Greeting a Green World Expo and Building a Low-carbon Ningbo was read. Some representatives were taking an oath together.
"I hereby make the pledge that I will do my best to plant trees, protect the green, save energy, act in a voluntary spirit, spread awareness of environmental protection, making contribution to the drive of building a low-carbon city”, resonated the tree planters on the site.
Recently, 280 Wind and PV hybrid power lights were installed at the Binhai Avenue of the coastal new town of Beilun. This type of energy-saving lights use LED, storage cells, solar-cell, and wind driven generator as the power supply. It can convert wind energy or solar energy into the other and the energy is stored in the storage cell. The cell is charged during daytime and provides power at nighttime. The lights can also work during rainy days.
Low-carbon life has aroused much concern of residents. A theme activity named Living a Low-Carbon Life and Being a Green-minded Citizen was held in a community in Yuyao a couple of days ago, which attracted many residents.
Tong Jingling, a resident, said: "To lead a green life, we need to say no to plastic bags and disposable chopsticks, use elevators less often, switch off electric appliances in time, doing whatever we can to sustain economic growth."
A 100-cuibic meters biomass pool was newly built in the Hangzhou Bay Bridge Farmstead recently, which uses solar heaters as the heat supply and uses pipes to transmit the sewage gas. The raw materials are mainly the dung of animals in the farm, rotten vegetables, and sewage.
According to Guo Zhiqiang, project manager of the Farmstead, with fermentation, they will give off methane, which can be used as fuel. The residues and liquid can be used as organic fertilizers.
It is said that with the use of the methane sources, the Farmstead realizes the circular use of the sewage treatment, solar energy and wind power, which ensures a win-win result in environmental protection and economic benefits.
