Before the Mothers' Day of May 11, Mr. Zhong Nanshan, the anti-SARS hero, who is also a member of China Engineering Academy, had an emotional speech at the Sixth Guangzhong Family Culture Festival for the memory of his mother. During his speech, he called on all the mothers to pay attention to the cultivation of children’s independence awareness and acceptance for setback.

As we know, the second Sunday of May is the Mothers’ Day. For this special occasion, it has become a fashion for the youth to prepare a gift for the mothers who raised them up. When I saw the report about Mr. Zhong Nanshan, I think his idea for Mothers’ Day is worth learning.

First of all, it is mother who gives us life and it is mother who raises us up. The love of mother is the purest and valuable love in the world. As Mr. Zhong Nanshan said, we should remember everything mother has done for us and practice everything mother has taught us. Mother often said that as long as we make promises, we should live up to it and we should have sympathy for people in trouble.

Secondly, Zhong Nanshan’s mother turned his son from a backward student into a top scientist with praise. Other mothers should learn from her in educating and loving children in a scientific way. The love of mother is not for imparting knowledge and skills but for being a good person. We should be alert on the “greenhouse effect” for children, which means we should not spoil them. Instead, we should cultivate their ability of accepting setback, praise their excellence, and encourage them to be sociable.
