The Port of Ningbo will further bring into play the advantage of deepwater and on the basis of strengthening the 100-million-ton-throughput port increase the investment in the port and further enhance the functions of "Five Bases" through building new large deepwater berths in order to maintain the steady increase of cargo throughput and port's reserve strength for further development. To this end, during the period from the present to 2007, Ningbo Port will be basically built into a first-class international deepwater hub port, an ocean-going main line port for international containers and a deepwater outer harbour of Shanghai International Shipping Centre which will play a leading role in the logistics of Ningbo City as well as Zhejiang Province. By that time, five transhipment bases for container, crude oil, ore, coal and liquid chemicals and a port information platform of logistics will be built up in all aspects. Besides, its domestic and international standing will be improved. The cargo throughput of the whole port will reach 200 million tons and container throughput will reach over 5 million TEUs.

During the period from 2007 to 2010, the port will be built into a first-class international deepwater hub port and an ocean-going main line port for international containers in an all-round way. The cargo throughput of the whole port will reach 250 million tons and container throughput will shoot for hitting 10 million TEUs. The port's domestic and international standing will be further improved as compared with that in 2007.
