1. Island-mainland transportation
The Daxie Sea-spanning Highway and Railway Bridge began to open to traffic in April 2001, enabling Daxie island to become a peninsular. The total investment in the bridge is about RMB yuan 450 million. The bridge has four lanes in two directions, with a highway and a railway on the same bridge.
2. Roads
The total road traffic mileage in Ningbo is about 5506 km, and the road density is 58.8 kilometers per hundred square kilometers. An advanced road transportation network radiating throughout the whole country has been formed.
Ningbo is connected to Hangzhou and Shanghai in the north via Shanghai-Hangzhou-Ningbo Expressway, and connected to Wenzhou, Fuzhou and Guangzhou in the south via Ningbo- Taizhou - Wenzhou Expressway.
It takes about 1.5 hours' and 3.5 hours' bus ride respectively to go from Ningbo to Hangzhou and Shanghai. With the completion of the Hangzhou Bay Bridge, the distance from Daxie to Shanghai will be reduced by 180 km, and it will only take about 2 hours to go from Daxie to Shanghai. 3. Aviation
It is about 40 km from Daxie to Ningbo Lishe Airport, a 4E level airport, with flights from Ningbo to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenyang, Xi'an, Xiamen, Nanchang, Haikou, Shantou, Shenzhen, Changsha, Nanjing, Wenzhou, Kunming, Chengdu, Lanzhou, Zhuhai, Hefei, Huangshan, Guilin, Chongqing, Dalian, Qingdao, Wuhan, Fuzhou, Ha'er'bin, Wulumuqi, and international flights to Hong Kong, Maocao, Kaoshiung, Bangkok, Fukuoka (Japan), Korea, etc.
Moreover, Daxie is close to Xiaoshan International Airport, Shanghai Pudong International Airport, Shanghai Hongqiao Airport. It takes about 1.5 to 3.5 hours from Daxie to these airports.
4. Port
Ningbo Port is one of the four deepest international transshipment ports. It has 132 berths of 500 or over 500 tonnages, and 17 berths of 50,0000 or over 50,000-tonnages , the largest 50,000 tonnage liquid chemical terminal in China, the specialized fourth and fifth containers terminal, a 200,000-tonnage iron ore terminal (which can be called at by 300,000 DWT vessels) and 250,000-tonnage crude oil tanks. And the frontier water depth of the third-phase containers terminal is about 15 meters. Equipped with a large container bridge crane with a extending capacity of 60.5 metes, the containers terminal can be called at by the largest container vessel in the world. Ningbo Beilun Port has opened more than 70 containers shipping lines, with 27 shipping lines to the east and west coast of America, Africa, South America, Middle East, and Europe, 24 shipping lines to Japan, Taiwan, South East Asia, and there are over 370 monthly flights.
Daxie Development Zone has a port annual handling capacity of 20 million tons with diversified specialized berths of crude oil, liquid chemicals ranging from 5000 to 250,000 tonnages. The Daxie container terminal that can be called at by the fifth and sixth generation containers vessels, with an annual handling capacity of 2 million TEU, will be completed in 2005, The Daxie passenger terminal has opened to traffic with high-speed passenger ships bound for Mount Putuo, Ninghai and Taohua island.
5. Hangzhou Bay Bridge
Ningbo Hangzhou Bay Bridge connecting Ningbo and Shanghai started construction on 8 June 2003, and plans to be completed in 2008. It is 36 km long with six expressway lanes in two directions, designed to be suited for vehicles whose speed is 100 km per hour. Its designed longevity is more than 100 years. The total investment of the bridge is RMB yuan 11.8 billion.
Ningbo Hangzhou Bay Bridge will drastically cut the distance between Shanghai, south of Jiangsu, and the southeast of Zhejiang Province, and the distance between Ningbo and Shanghai will be cut by more than 180 km. Thus the golden two-hour transportation triangle of Shanghai, Hangzhou and Ningbo.
