A Moving Story of Workers in Power Sector
2008-03-03 07:33:30

The continuing heavy snow has caused serious damages to the electric transmission line of central and south provinces. To restore the electricity supply, over 30,000 workers have been making arduous effort on the snow-topped mountains day and night.

I had thought that people working in monopolized industries like power system are well paid without actual performance. When I saw a scene on TV that an exhausted electrician had nothing to eat but snow in the working site, tears come out from my eyes. He shows the spirit of dedication and behind this, I see the hope of overcoming the natural disaster.

The unprecedented snow put the people of several provinces in the central and south provinces into an abyss of suffering. All of a sudden, the power was suspended, water cut off, road blocked and heart broken. At this crucial moment, electricians show up bravely, giving up holidays and the family gatherings. They go to the anti-disaster front one after another in spite of the killing cold.  All what they do is for the people traveling on the way back home and the lights indispensable to daily life.

Thanks to their hard work, electricity supply is restored, trains are restarted and the normal life of people comes back. All these are achieved at the cost of suffering of electricians themselves. They have continued working for many days without rest and even without adequate food. Under this serious condition, 9 electricians working in Hunan, Guangdong, Guizhou and Hubei were killed by accidents during the anti-disaster campaign. Heroes have passed away but they leave hope to others. They really deserve our high respect.
