Ningbo Xerox Vocational School was set up in March 1993. Sponsored by Shanghai Xerox Ningbo Branch, it is the first of its kind in Ningbo specializing in computer education. Adhering to the principle of "what you need is what I teach", the school commits itself to serving the local economy by adapting to the community and market needs and making full use of its specialty. Being one of Ningbo's important bases for computer education and training, it has formed a multi-level and multi-channel education norm through a combination of vocational and adult education, diploma-oriented education and short-term training, full-time and spare-time education as well as independent management and cooperation with other educational units. In 1995, the school was approved by the National Examination Center as one of the designated locales in Ningbo for computer grade examination. In 1996, it was named as one of the advanced schools for social resources utilization in Zhejiang Province. In 2000, it gained the title of Excellent Locally Sponsored School in Zhejiang Province.
Ningbo Xerox Vocational School is located in the west of Ningbo City. It covers an area of 13 mu, with 9,000 square meters of school building and 3,000 square meters of accessory building. It is provided with 32 classrooms, including 6 computer rooms equipped with more than 300 computers, 200 of which are PIII with 17-inch full color monitors. To cater to the needs of the market, the school has offered ten majors including computer operation, computer application, computer and accounting, copy machine operation and maintenance, office automation, computer and commercials design, computer and information management, computer and network administration, computer and interior design, computer and foreign trade document preparation, etc.
The School has 29 full-time classes, including 2 junior college classes, 4 polytechnic classes, 10 vocational senior high classes, 11 vocational junior high classes and 2 comprehensive senior high classes. Its full-time students total 1401, 358 of which are boarding students. Its part-time students and short-term trainees total more than 1,200.
The school strongly commits itself to developing its students' intellect and sets great importance to the development of their creativity and practical abilities. The students spend nearly one third of their course time at the computer. In the recent vocational school computer skills contests in Ningbo, Xerox went away with sever team championships. In the 1999 contest, Xerox carried away all of the first four places. In the 2000 Zhejiang Province Vocational School Computer Operation Contest, Xerox student collected the individual title. The school's pass rate in Ningbo's uniform examination of Chinese, math and English is above 95 percent and the excellent rate is 61 percent. Its pass rate for professional skills is 100 percent and the excellence rate is 28 percent.
Since 1995, the school has produced 146 junior college students, 310 adult polytechnic students and 1,370 vocational students. Thanks to the students' solid foundation in their major as well as their strong adaptability to society, their employment rate keeps above 95 percent every year.
