Ningbo Pilot Primary school is located at 2, Wan An Road, Haishu District, Ningbo. To its east flows the Liuxi River. To its south lies the Shuxiangyuan Garden and Xiaoshi Middle School. The Culture Residential Quarter lies to its west and the West Zhongshan Road on its south right across a river. The school has a nice surrounding and strong cultural atmosphere.

Formerly named Maoxi Primary School and Xijao Road Primary School, the school was established in 1922. In 1981 it was renamed Affiliate Primary School of Ningbo Normal College. In 1985 it was again named Ningbo Piolt Primary School. The school has accumulated rich teaching experience in its 80 years' history.

The school was among the earliest to establish friendly relationship with Nagaokayi of Japan and Aachen of Germany, to start teaching research in the province and to promote nationally the fruits of teaching reform. Up to today, the school has educated large numbers of high quality graduates, provided an experimental base for normal education and played an experimental and exemplary role in primary school education.

The school's teaching principle is to base education on the educated. It designs for each child a dynamic educational strategy by exploring his/her most optimum development area and best development process. It aims at laying a solid knowledge foundation for the students, cultivating their creative thinking, developing their individual personality and elevating their overall qualities.

The school takes a selective teaching mode. The students are free to choose their goals according to their own cases. The school assigns normal college students to tutor the primary students individually. The school attaches great importance to aesthetic education and has formed an educational mechanism of using beauty to nurture the students' virtues, develop their wisdom, build up their health and uplift their moral standard.

The school has a strong staff team witch includes one top grade teacher at provincial level, one municipal paragon teacher title holder, 2 municipal discipline leaders, and 3 senior grade middle school teachers. Sixty two percent of the staff owns senior primary teacher's certificates. Eighty-one of them have an education above junior college. Forty percent of them have claimed the titles of promising teacher at provincial, municipal and district levels.

During the recent years the school has won the honor of advanced collective in the national language standardization contest, first team prize in the national music knowledge contest, the title of advanced collective in the first national standardized Chinese handwriting contest and the title of national Young Pioneer's Red Flag Team. It has been cited in the province as the advanced collective of educational research, professional ethics and excellent parents guidance. At the municipal level it has been cited as advanced collective of ethics education, mass sports, teachers' training, artistic education, library and audio-visual instruction. As the fruit of basic educational research, the paper Aesthetic Education Research won the first prize in the city and second prize in the province.

The new century has brought to the school the prospect for new achievements. New school buildings are under construction. The school is making an effort to make itself a first class modern exemplary school in the province.
