Affiliated with Zhenhai Education Commission, Zhenhai Ren'ai Middle School was founded with donations from Ms Zhang Aifang, the overseas Chinese, credited as "paragon of hometown lover by Zhejiiang Province and honorary citizen of Ningbo city. The school started construction in April 1997 and was completed in June 1998 totaling investment amount of RMB24,000,000.
The school is divided by function into three areas: teaching area, activities area and living area. It is provided with two computer rooms, one multimedia language lab, music room, dance room, fine art room, calligraphy room, science & technology room and reading room, plus advanced multimedia classrooms, campus computer network system, closed circuit TV system and other modern teaching equipment and facilities. The science lab, chemicals lab and biology lab are up to the first grade by State or provincial assessment.
The school currently has 21 classes and near 1200 teachers and students. The teaching facility includes 64 teachers and administrative members, 1 of which is a top-grade teacher, 14 senior teachers and 26 first-grade teachers. The qualification pass rate of teachers is 100%, with over 60% of teachers having degrees of or above the bachelor and a good age structure of the teachers. There are 2 discipline leaders and 7 backbone teachers among the young teachers as well as 7 promising young teachers. The school implements the Headmaster responsibility system and employment contract system. It practices target management and maintains an incentive mechanism whereby the staff members are paid depending on their performance at work.
The school follows the principle of "laying a good foundation for students and promoting their personality" and aims to build a provincial exemplary first-class middle school characterized by "top quality, distinct merits and good reputation". In fact the school has been working toward this goal ever since its founding. Significant achievements have been scored during the last four years. In various selective tests conducted in the District, students from this school are on the top list in all subjects of study. 100% of the first batch of school graduates were admitted by new schools. Two of them got the top and next to top scores respectively in entrance examinations in the District. The students have also come out with flying colors at individual subject competitions, ranking on the top of all schools of the District. At the Hope Cup nationwide maths competition, the junior first grade class carried away the second prize. They students also performed well at such other competitions as natural science, English, picture arrangement, labour skill, writing, music, physical education, oration and fine art. Titles of honour received by the school over the years include: the Civilized School of Zhenhai District, Civilized Unit of Zhenhai District, Healthcare Excellence Unit of Ningbo, Public Security Excellence Unit of Zhejiang, Healthcare Excellence Unit of Zhejiang and National Defense Education Excellence Unit of Zhejiang.
