Embracing the Opportunities Offered by Hangzhou Bay

The development of the Yangtze River delta is now being catalyzed by Ningbo in the south and Shanghai in the north. Over the next ten years, the Yangtze River delta will see the world’s most rapid economic growth and largest increase in consumer spending. Besides sharing the heavy throughput of Shanghai Port, Ningbo is strategically positioned on China’s east coast and offers an excellent, deep-water harbor that boasts convenient access to the rich Yangtze River delta area. As mobile phone, computer and peripheral product manufacturing has developed in the region, the harbor facilities have been a decisive factor encouraging exports to the Japan, Korea and Taiwan markets. It’s a quick trip from Beilun’s deep-water harbor to any of these Asian countries and it is because of this harbor that the manufacturing sites located in the Yangtze River delta are becoming the preferred choice for IT companies that market their products in Asia.

Cost-saving sea shipments at the speed of air Ningbo Port’s convenient location means that companies do not have to rely on expensive air shipments for timely delivery of products to their target markets in Asia. Container-based sea shipment from the harbor offers customers a point-to-point delivery service to major Asian cities including Incyon, Busan, Osaka, Kobe, Yokohama, Nagasaki, Fukuoka, Keelung, and Kaoshiung in just one day. The overall cost saving reduces logistics expenses and can become a major competitive edge for international companies targeting product promotion in the East Asia market. As China’s membership of the WTO develops and the big-three-links with Taiwan are established, Ningbo’s position and advantages will become even more apparent. Ningbo Port, at the midpoint of East China’s coastline, has the greatest potential to create opportunities for its customers.

Free Trade Zone and Export Processing (Bonded) Area The Ningbo Bonded Area was established in June 2002 with the approval of the State Council. It is intended to help Ningbo Beilun Port provide an export service with efficient customs clearance and a tax-free processing path. Taking advantage of its being “exempt from tax, exempt from license, bonded tax” policies In conjunction with the nearby airports, the area provides a complete range of international trading, export processing and bonded warehousing services. In the future, the bonded area and export processing zone will follow a “one base, two licenses” model and create a friendly international trading environment for investors.
