 The White Crane Pool Scenic Area-Ningbo's Xanadu is situated in a tributary gorge on the upper reaches of the Huangtan Reservoir and 15 kilometers west of Ninghai County Proper. The scenic area is a model national ecological and landscape area. As legend goes, once upon a time in the Zhou Dynasty (1122 BC-256 BC), a prince named Wang Qiao, son of King Ling, went making pills of immortality and cultivating vital energy on Mount Songshan under an immortal's directions. Then he left from Mount Goushi of Luoyang for Mount Tongbai of Ninghai (today's Lianghuang Mountain) on a crane's back to continue his vital cultivativation. Eventually he was blessed and was raised to the heavon and became an immortal. The northern side of Lianghuang Mounatin, charming and quiet, is said to be the very site where Wang Qiao cultivated vital energy. Hence this place is called the Wild Crane Pools. This scenic area, with its main scenic spot 3 kilometers long, is characterized by cliffs, gullies and valleys and 36 pools and 18 cascades. It is a rare place found in Eastern Zhejiang Province that integrates natural landscapes and Taoist culture, and a wonderful resort for coolness, leisure and pleasure.
