
Cixi District, located at south bank of Hangzhou Bay, east edged by urban Ningbo, connected with city of Yuyao by south-west, and separated from Shanghai just by sea, lies in center area of the Golden Economic Hu-hang-yong Triangle, total area covering 1154 km with 78.5 km of coastline northerly, and a population of 1.214 million. Cixi is the historic cradle of China celadon, also the undock site supplied Xufu to successfully easterly crossing Japan. Cixi has become one of the areas fastest developing its economy. By 2002, Cixi's GDP reached 20.6 billion RMB; total production value for agriculture and industry be 82.815 billion RMB, of which industry held 80.4 billion and agriculture 2.415 billion; financial revenue be 2.66 billion RMB; per capita income of peasant and towner reached 6,328 and 13,931 RMB respectively; and their average dwelling space be 25 and 45 square meter individually. The Engel Coefficient of living standard for Cixi's residents lower than 40%, having entered the fairly wealthy counties (cities) in advance. Cixi's foreign trading, foreign investment and foreign economy experience linkage development, which fosters an excellent "three foreign" service system. By December of year 2002, profiting private exportation enterprises amounted up to 335 with its own exportation value achieving 1.17 billion USD; 759 "three capital" enterprises (with total investment of 1.542 billion USD); 50 overseas enterprises.
