Jiangbei District, is mainly a suburban district with comprehensive economic development.  With the Yongiang River to its west, Yao River to the south, Yuyao to the west, it covers an area of 208 KM2 and has a population of 217,000. Its jurisdiction encompasses 4 towns and 4 sub-districts. 

Since its opening to the outside, Jiangbei has witnessed a great economic development. In 2000 , the GDP hit 2.23 billion yuan. There are 182 enterprises with foreign investment. The total investment reached $ 173 million and contract investment $ 103 million, actual utilization of foreign investment reached $ 51.06 million. The well-known products are 'Mengshen' mattress, 'Jintian' electrolysis copper, 'Yongjiang River' plastic moulding machine, etc. The storage , transportation are industrialized with the development of special markets. Agriculture is the traditional industry of Jiangbei. Now , it become the agriculture base of Ningbo.

In recent years, the development of construction of Jiangbei is great. Many residential districts are completed or under construction. Laiyingbao Villa District and Fanjing Residential Garden have the beautiful and comfortable living environment, as well as the Huaishu Apartment District, Golden Harbor Mansion, Gangfang Mansion and Jingfeng Plaza. Renming Road, one of the most important roads of the new traffic network, will become another downtown of Ningbo.

Last year, Jiangbei District was selected as a "Cultural Tourism" area by Ningbo Government. There is 4 km-long " Three-River Cultural corridor", out of which 3 km is in the Jiangbei District. The project includes newly constructed waterside area, European & continental style streets, Ningbo Grand Theatre, Waitan cultural street. People's Arts Center, Ningbo Art Gallery, the Swimming & Diving stadium, and water sports centre, etc. According to the request of “The latecomers surpass the old-timers, to be the most beautiful and best one." There is a complete transportation network and infrastructure in Jiangbei District. The No. 329 national road, No. 61 provincial road, Jiangbei revenue and grade one Ning Zhen Road link the transportation. The soon open Hangzhou Bay Bridge connects Ningbo on the west side of Jiangbei Science & Technology Zone, which connects to the city’s ring road. The Jiangbei industrial science & technology zone which covers an area of the 5.44 square kilometers is in swing.

Ningbo Jiangbei Industrial Technology Park
Ningbo Jiangbei Industrial Technology Park is located on the major entrance northwest of Ningbo downtown and alongside the Jiangbei Avenue. The park starts from the western Outer Ring Road in the west, reaches Xiao (shan) Yong (Ningbo) Railway in the east. It borders Yuyao River on the south and Xishao Village (of Zhuangqiao Town) on the north. The total area is 5.44 square kilometers. The 1st phase development area is 258 hectares and the 2nd phase development area will be 286 hectares. According to Ningbo City's Development Plan, the construction of Northern Outer Ring Expressway (108 meters in width), which will be started in the year of 2002, runs through the whole industrial park. Ningbo connection of Hangzhou Bay Expressway (that is under planning) will also have a flyover beside the west of the park, which will eventually make it possible that Ningbo be incorporated into the 2-hour transportation circle of Shanghai. By then, Jiangbei Industrial Technology Park will be the north entrance of Ningbo downtown. Now, the construction of utilities and infrastructure facilities in 0.67 square kilometers for the 1st phase development has been initiated in full-scale and put into operation as planned.
The park has good infrastructure facility, the contraction of basic infrastructure in the Park has been completed, which including water, road electricity, heat supply, communication, drainage and ground leveling. There are over 20 enterprises have registered in the Park, 5 of them are oversea enterprises, it appear bright prospect for economic development.
Ningbo Jiangbei Industrial Technology Park will focus on the development of electronics, information technology, electrical instrument etc. It also intends to have certain scientific research and technology transfer facilities. The park will be divided into many functional zones such as Hi-tech industrial zone; educational and scientific research incubation zone, business service and living quarters.
